I Hate This Guy

  And who doesn't?
When will Larry Summers ever learn to shut the heck up? Every time he opens his mouth he says something even more stupid or odious. Last weekend, in the Education Life section of the New York Times, he wrote a piece called What You (Really) Need to Know.

I will summarize the article for you:

1. You don’t have to actually learn anything anymore, as long as you can Google it.

2.  In the future everyone will work in teams, so it doesn’t matter if an individual is incompetent. (That must've worked for him.)

3.  You don’t need so many teachers anymore, because you can just watch videos of their lectures.

4.  With modern technology, we will be able to learn “actively.”  Somehow this involves rearranging the furniture into circles. And watching videos.

5.  No  need to learn foreign languages, because everyone speaks English!

6.  Analyzing data is more important than actually knowing anything. (There he contradicts himself - presumably you would need to  know some prob & stats to analyze all the data.)

And to think, this guy used to be president of Harvard (from which he resigned, before he could finish running it into the ground). Hey Larry - Shut. The. F*ck. Up. Go back to deregulating derivatives, clubbing baby seals, or whatever it is you do in your spare time, and stay away from education and journalism.
