I Come to Bury Steve Jobs, Not to Praise Him
I had been meaning to post a blog entry on Options: the Secret Life of Steve Jobs, by Fake Steve Jobs, but hadn’t gotten to it yet. So allow me to use the event of his death to make fun of him. (I'm kidding, sort of.) Fake Steve Jobs (later outed as financial writer Daniel Lyons) has written a hilarious parody of the man pontificating on his tenure at Apple, his genius, his management style, all sorts of things. There is an authorized biography of Jobs that is due to be released soon, but don’t bother with that, just read the parody instead. It will probably give you more insight.
Is it just me, or is the amount of media coverage of Steve Jobs’s death a bit much? Front page, above-the-fold in newspapers all over the world. He wasn’t a head of state or anything! He was the head of a wildly successful company that makes high quality gadgets beloved by hipsters the world over. He was a shrewd businessman, and undoubtedly a very smart man. He made industrial design cool. But it’s not like he invented the transistor or anything. Or the polio vaccine People, get a hold of yourselves! And no, I’m not one of those Apple Haters - I own an iPod, and there is an iMac floating around my house someplace. But geez! Enough with the Jobs media saturation already.
