La Ciudad de los Palacios

Down and Delirious in Mexico City - The Aztec Metropolis in the 21st Century, by Daniel Hernandez

Lately I’m on a bit of a Latin American kick.  One of these days, I’m going to learn Spanish.  After all, I may need to move there someday, if the economy keeps imploding and my retirement funds continue to go up in smoke.  The author of this book moves from California to Mexico City and explores the various youth sub-cultures in one of the world’s largest cities, all the while searching for his own Mexican-American identity.  I knew next to zero about Mexico City before I read this, and now I would like to visit there.

Next on my list:  El Monstruo: Dread and Redemption in Mexico City, by John Ross.  I’m irritated that the Kindle version of El Monstruo is $15.63, while you can buy it new in paperback for $12.23.  I understand that Amazon doesn’t set the e-book prices, the publisher does, but I still think it's annoying.  Fortunately, I will soon be able to borrow library books on my Kindle, according to this article, so that is some consolation.

Usual disclaimer:  I do not work for Amazon.com, nor am I shilling for the Kindle.
